There is a focus on using one's knowledge to solve current problems or finding solutions to long-term problems. This area also covers issues such as crime prevention, criminal justice, community safety and violence. Many of these skills can be applied in a community or at work. They can also be applied at home.Community Service: This area covers subjects such as volunteerism, education, business and community service. This area also includes issues such as energy conservation, recycling, littering and waste disposal. The topics can help students learn about teamwork, communication and problem solving. The focus of this section is active involvement in community activities.Career Training: This area covers subjects such as technology and communications. The focus is on applying technical skills in the workplace. Students are able to apply their career training knowledge in an industry. This area also covers topics such as health care, nursing, educational guidance and physical therapy. This skill can be applied at home or in the classroom.Writing: This section covers infor mation that is needed to write an essay. This can include research, background, supporting information and study materials. Students will write a composition with references and general statements. This section includes critical thinking and argumentation skills.Before a student can take the GED writing exam they must pass the prerequisite writing section. The writing section can be learned in two ways: through a GED guide and through a GED preparation course.While preparing for the GED exam, you may want to consider the multiple choice portion of the test. Many schools offer a short GED preparation course in which you will practice writing essays. The exam will normally cover four topics and this will be practiced over the next two weeks before the exam.
